Following the Ombudsman’s Submission, UZS 260 Million Allocated for Repairs
A number of shortcomings were identified during a monitoring visit conducted by staff of the Ombudsman’s Office together with the Ombudsman’s Regional Representative in Tashkent Region at Penal Colony No. 13.

In particular, it was noted that the walls of the detention cells were in poor condition, the toilet and the short-term visiting room for convicts required repairs, and the date and time displayed by the video surveillance cameras installed in the disciplinary unit were incorrect.

To address the identified shortcomings, the Ombudsman submitted a formal representation to the Department for the Execution of Sentences under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Following consideration of the representation, the date and time settings of 32 video surveillance cameras installed in the disciplinary unit were adjusted. In addition, UZS 260 million was earmarked for the current repair of the disciplinary unit and the short-term visiting room.
