Based on the results of the monitoring, in October the Ombudsman submitted a formal recommendation to the Regional Department of Internal Affairs. The submission requested the elimination of deficiencies related to detention conditions and compliance with sanitary and hygiene requirements, as well as a legal assessment of the actions of the staff members who allowed the violations.
According to information provided to the Ombudsman, measures have been taken to equip the facility’s cells with the necessary inventory. In addition, strict control has been established to ensure that sanitation and hygiene work in the cells and dining areas is carried out three times a month, and that the quality of food products is regularly inspected.
Furthermore, the necessary conditions have been created to allow persons held in the facility to access legislation, literature and periodical publications.
A service inquiry was carried out with respect to the staff members responsible for the violations, and appropriate disciplinary measures were applied.
