During the meeting, the work carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years to ensure human rights as one of the priorities of state policy, as well as the results achieved in this area, were acknowledged.

The dialogue also focused on efforts aimed at obtaining “A” status for the Ombudsman institution in accordance with the Paris Principles and the next stages of preparation for international accreditation. The parties reviewed ongoing work to strengthen the independence and institutional capacity of the Ombudsman and enhance the effectiveness of human rights protection mechanisms.

Ennio Boati positively assessed the key results of the Ombudsman’s activities, highlighting, in particular, the implementation of the Ombudsman’s response measures, the practice of exercising the right of legislative initiative, the “Inclusive Ombudsman” project, and monitoring visits to places where persons with restricted freedom of movement are held.

Representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights provided expert recommendations on the next steps in preparing to obtain “A” status and on matters to be taken into account during the international accreditation process.

The meeting also considered opportunities to strengthen the capacity of the Ombudsman institution throughout this process, continue expert and methodological support, enhance staff qualifications, and study international experience.
