The meeting discussed the draft Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with Improving the System for Protecting Children from All Forms of Violence”.

The need to develop this draft law is primarily associated with ensuring reliable protection of children from all forms of violence, preventing such acts, establishing effective legal measures in response to them, and further strengthening legal safeguards for the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of children.

The draft law was actively discussed at meetings of parliamentary factions and at a plenary session and was conceptually approved at the first reading. Members of the Public Council also participated in this process and expressed their views and proposals regarding the draft law. Particular attention was paid to further improving the draft by considering proposals from experts and representatives of the public.

Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) B. Narimanov also participated in the meeting and put forward proposals aimed at protecting children from all forms of violence, ensuring their rights and legitimate interests, preventing cases of violence, and strengthening prompt and effective legal response measures in such cases.

Projects and practical initiatives implemented by the Ombudsman institution also play an important role in this area. In particular, the “Equality and Respect” project is aimed at ensuring guarantees of women’s rights, preventing violence against women, and conducting individual work with persons who have committed violence or are prone to committing it. The “Ombudsman Hour” project, in turn, is designed to provide school students with knowledge of human rights in a simple, systematic and practical manner that is accessible to children, improve their legal literacy, help them understand their rights and responsibilities, and foster an atmosphere of mutual respect in society.
