The State of Human Rights Protection in the Regions Discussed at Local Council Sessions
At the sessions of the regional Councils of People’s Deputies of Khorezm, Namangan, Kashkadarya and Andijan regions, the respective regional representatives of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) presented reports on the state of protection of human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests in the regions.

During the sessions, the regional representatives provided information on the work carried out in reviewing citizens’ appeals, studying the issues raised therein in cooperation with relevant authorities, restoring violated rights, as well as analysing the human rights situation in the regions. The discussions also covered the results of monitoring visits to institutions where persons with restricted freedom of movement are held, measures introduced to eliminate identified shortcomings and the implementation of such measures, open dialogues aimed at increasing public legal awareness, as well as issues raised during mobile public receptions.

As noted, the presentation of reports by regional representatives before local Councils enables human rights issues in the regions to be discussed with the participation of the депутат corps, helps identify systemic problems based on the analysis of appeals, and contributes to developing practical solutions at the local level.

For information: pursuant to Article 43 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman)”, the Ombudsman’s regional representative, in coordination with the Ombudsman, annually presents a report on the state of protection of human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests in the region to the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as to the regional and Tashkent city Councils of People’s Deputies.
