Advanced Practices in Ensuring Human Rights Discussed at the GANHRI General Assembly in Geneva
On 31 March this year, the General Assembly of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, with the participation of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

The General Assembly serves as an important global platform where key decisions concerning the activities of national human rights institutions are adopted. It brings together national human rights institutions from various regions of the world, United Nations bodies, as well as representatives of states and civil society.

The agenda of the General Assembly includes presentations from the Alliance’s regional networks, accreditation processes, and consideration of issues related to the organization’s current activities.

In particular, the presentation of reports by national human rights institutions operating in different regions provides an opportunity to ознакомиться with approaches, practical mechanisms, and effective practices in the field of human rights protection. This contributes to strengthening cooperation among national institutions, discussing modern solutions to pressing challenges, and studying best international practices.

For reference, the Global Alliance was established in 1993 and is currently one of the largest networks of national human rights institutions in the world.

According to official data from the Alliance, as of December 2025, it comprises 119 national human rights institutions, of which 91 hold “A status” and 28 hold “B status.”

The Ombudsman’s participation in this event is of significant importance for presenting the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of human rights on the international stage, as well as for studying and applying advanced international practices in this area.
