Women Survivors of Violence in Andijan Received On-Site Legal and Psychological Assistance
Within the framework of the “Equality and Respect” platform, initiated by the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), activities aimed at preventing violence against women, supporting survivors, and providing practical assistance are ongoing.

The next “Legal Aid Bus” event was held at the Regional Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center for Women in Andijan region.

The event, organized at the initiative of the Ombudsman’s regional representative in Andijan region, was attended by Gulnora Abduvokhidova, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Nasibakhon Tuychieva, Head of the Secretariat of the Andijan Regional Council of People’s Deputies, Ilkhomjon Abdulazizov, Chairman of the Andijan City Council of the Social Democratic Party “Adolat”, as well as representatives of the regional Department of Internal Affairs, the Department for Poverty Reduction and Employment, the Women’s Affairs Department, and a psychologist from Andijan State University.

Currently, 8 women and their 9 children reside at the center. Some have arrived recently, while others have been undergoing rehabilitation for several months. It was noted that some women are acquiring vocational skills, while others have already been employed and started earning an independent income.

The event was held in the format of a roundtable discussion. During the meeting, the participants shared their life experiences, the challenges they faced within their families, the conditions at the center, and their future plans.

During the discussions, the women were provided with explanations on the procedure for obtaining a protection order, legal safeguards against harassment and violence, as well as available opportunities in education, employment, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and housing. Legal advice was provided on-site for certain appeals, while employment-related applications were received in accordance with established procedures.

Following the event, individual psychological sessions were conducted with the women. These consultations focused on alleviating emotional distress, reducing internal fears and insecurity, and fostering a positive outlook on the future.
