A Festive Event Organized for Women Prisoners in a Women’s Penal Colony
On 5 March 2026, at the initiative of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), and in cooperation with the Department for the Execution of Sentences under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Society of Persons with Disabilities of Uzbekistan, a festive event dedicated to 8 March — International Women’s Day was organized for women serving sentences at Penal Colony No. 21 in Tashkent region.

The Ombudsman regularly monitors the conditions created for women prisoners in penal institutions and reviews their appeals. In addition, guided by the principle of respect for human dignity, similar initiatives aimed at providing social and moral support to women prisoners are organized on a regular basis.

During the event, musical and cultural performances were presented for the participants. Such cultural and educational activities contribute to creating a positive psychological atmosphere within the institution, strengthening confidence in the future, and encouraging successful social reintegration after release.

The organizers also donated more than 200 fiction books to the colony’s library. In addition, wheelchairs and walking aids were provided to prisoners with disabilities.
