During the meeting, commenting on the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee highly praised the country’s initiatives aimed at ensuring human rights, noting their consistent and systematic nature.
The meeting also focused on the role of national human rights institutions in Uzbekistan and Malaysia in safeguarding human rights and freedoms, their cooperation with parliaments, as well as prospects for exchanging experience in these areas.
It was noted that these ties have been further strengthened through high-level exchanges, including the visit to Uzbekistan in 2023 by a delegation headed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Malaysian Parliament, and the visit to Malaysia in 2024 by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
For information: The Uzbekistan–Malaysia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group has been operating since 2020 and serves as an effective mechanism for cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. Within this platform, issues related to human rights legislation are regularly discussed.
