Ombudsmen from Türkiye, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Azerbaijan, Qatar, China, North Macedonia and several other countries also took part in the conference, exchanging views on guarantees of institutional independence, practices of protecting citizens’ rights, and emerging challenges in the digital era.
Deputy Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) B. Narimonov, who participated in the international conference, briefed the attendees on the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan to ensure human rights and the role of the Ombudsman institution in this process.
The Protector of Citizens institution of Serbia, established in 2005, functions as an independent body responsible for safeguarding human rights and freedoms and exercising public oversight over the activities of state authorities.
In 2023, a bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ombudsmen of Uzbekistan and Serbia, establishing joint efforts in handling complaints and enhancing staff capacity.
