Ombudsman’s Statement: Convict Underwent Medical Examination, No Signs of Violence Found

A video appeal from the relatives of convict Khushnud Jumaev circulated on social media, alleging that he was subjected to torture at a penal institution and that his condition was critical.

This situation was taken under control and investigated by the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman). On 3 November, the Ombudsman’s regional representative in Navoi region carried out a monitoring visit to the prison section of Penal Institution No. 11 in Navoi city and personally met with the convict, K. Jumaev.

During the review, the conditions of serving the sentence, the convict’s access to rights and obligations, and the procedure for meetings with relatives were examined. Furthermore, during a medical examination conducted in the presence of two impartial convicts and a medical staff member, no signs of bodily injuries were found on Jumaev’s body.

At present, the Navoi Regional Specialized Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an inquiry into the case.
