The United Nations has declared July 30 as “World Day against Trafficking in Persons”. Trafficking in persons affects virtually every country and region of the world and is a pressing problem today. According to data, 71 percent of victims of human trafficking are women and children.

With this in mind, the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), on the occasion of this date, organized events aimed at raising citizens' legal awareness of the fight against human trafficking and the creation of decent working conditions in the regions of our republic. These round tables, which are being held for 30 days, were organized by the regional representatives of the Ombudsman in Andijan, Navoi, Bukhara, Namangan and Khorezm regions.

These open dialogues on “Combating Trafficking in Human Beings” were attended by the staff of several organizations and NGOs in the regions, as well as by citizens in the mahallas. Speakers at the event informed citizens in detail about the consequences of trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, about the anti-trafficking and law enforcement reforms being implemented in our country. The meetings also emphasized children and women, who are the most victims of human trafficking today.

On 29 July 2024, in cooperation with the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Decent Work, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Office of the International Organization for Migration in Uzbekistan (IOM), a conference was held on 30 July on the theme “Combating trafficking in persons: national approaches and international standards”, dedicated to World Day against Trafficking in Persons. Feruza Eshmatova, Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), also made a presentation.

As is known, the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) is a member of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Decent Labor.

The fight against human trafficking and the prevention of such undesirable phenomena is currently gaining global importance. In this regard, a marathon aimed at holding round tables with the population was launched across the country as part of the “30 Days Against Human Trafficking” campaign.

Open dialogues held by the regional representatives of the Ombudsman in the regions were full of mutual questions and answers.
