“Ombudsman Hour”: Raising Schoolchildren’s Awareness of Human Rights and Freedoms
Developing legal literacy from an early age is important for fostering the principles of the rule of law and respect for human rights. For this purpose, “Ombudsman Hour” lessons are being organised throughout the country.

The latest “Ombudsman Hour” lessons were conducted by the Regional Representatives of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent city, and Syrdarya, Andijan and Bukhara Regions. More than 200 school students participated in the lessons.

The sessions were organised at General Secondary School No. 15 in Mirzaabad District of Syrdarya Region; General Secondary School No. 59 in Asaka District and General Secondary Schools No. 67 and No. 5 in Shahrihan District of Andijan Region; School No. 1 in Almazar District of Tashkent city; and General Secondary School No. 29 in Bukhara city, Bukhara Region.

The sessions were conducted not in a traditional lecture format, but interactively — through video lessons, open dialogue with students and real-life examples.

During the sessions, students were introduced to human rights and freedoms, their legal guarantees and protection mechanisms. Using real-life examples, they were also provided with explanations on protection against cybercrime, safe use of the internet and social media, prevention of offences, and ways to avoid various negative influences.

The students also received answers to questions of interest to them on the topics discussed and exchanged views.
