Conditions at the women’s correctional facility were studied

On May 26, 2026, the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) conducted a monitoring visit to Penal Colony No. 21 located in Zangiota district of Tashkent region.

During the monitoring visit, the conditions created for women serving sentences in the colony were studied, including living conditions, recreation, labor activities, opportunities for long-term and short-term meetings with relatives, food supply, the availability and quality of medical care, as well as compliance with sanitary and hygiene requirements.

In particular, working conditions in the colony’s production area, compliance with safety regulations, and the involvement of inmates in labor activities were reviewed.

In addition, collective and individual meetings were held with the inmates, and their appeals were heard. Appeals submitted through the “Ombudsman boxes” installed in closed institutions were also taken under supervision.

Based on the results of the monitoring visit, it is reported that Ombudsman response documents will be submitted to the relevant ministries and agencies.
