Ombudsman’s Response to the Report on the Prolonged Detention of a Woman in Olmazor District
On June 14, 2025, a report titled “A Woman in Olmazor Has Been Detained Without Grounds for at Least 80 Days” was circulated on social media. It alleged that citizen N. Davranova had been held in detention for an extended period by the Tashkent city Olmazor district prosecutor’s office and internal affairs authorities.

This case was taken under the supervision of the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman), and the relevant case materials were reviewed.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on December 26, 2024, N. Davranova was found guilty by the Ohangaron District Criminal Court of Tashkent region under Article 168, Part 4 (a) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (fraud with serious consequences) and was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month of corrective labor.

Additionally, she is under investigation as a suspect in another criminal case. It has also been reported that several other criminal cases involving N. Davranova are currently under review by the relevant courts. Therefore, she is presently being held at the Central Pre-Trial Detention Center under the Department for the Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code, N. Davranova’s appeal has been submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan to conduct an inquiry and provide a legal assessment of the actions of the responsible officials.

One of the key priorities of the Ombudsman’s activity is to exercise public oversight over the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms.
