If you live in a remote region of the country and cannot travel to the capital, you can reach out to the Ombudsman’s regional representatives. In accordance with the Presidential Decree "On Measures to Improve the Activities of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman)" dated September the regional representatives of the Ombudsman have been operating permanently since 2022. They not only accept your appeals but can also, if necessary, examine the issue on-site with the help of specialists.
On the website Ombudsman.uz, you can find the contacts, reception days, and phone numbers of the regional representatives of the Human Rights Ombudsman.
How are appeals handled by regional representatives, and what are their other tasks? Here’s more information.
The main task of regional representatives is to receive and review citizens' appeals and assist in restoring violated rights. If necessary, they can involve experts, specialists, and representatives of relevant organizations for a thorough review of the appeal.
Every person must be heard. The Ombudsman’s regional representatives meet with detained, arrested, and imprisoned individuals to help ensure their rights. They also take control of appeals received from "Ombudsman Boxes" installed in closed institutions for persons with restricted freedom of movement. In addition, they conduct monitoring visits to penitentiary institutions and, together with members of public groups, inspect the conditions of detention.
Based on appeals from residents across the republic, even in the most remote regions, open meetings with citizens are organized to review their issues. At “Ombudsman School” events, representatives of government agencies participate to clarify the issues raised by citizens. Additionally, the “Ombudsman’s Hour” project helps schoolchildren learn about their rights. Regional representatives of the Ombudsman also participate in media outlets.
As you can see, the Ombudsman's regional representatives carry out a range of important responsibilities, and their work schedule is organized accordingly. If you plan to reach out to them, it’s best to do so on reception days.
