The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan that took part in this seminar included the head of the Sector for the Development of International Cooperation of the Secretariat of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Jasur Islamov. The delegation also includes representatives of the Ministry of Justice, a deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the Senate, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Center for Human Rights, the Supreme Council of Judges, and the Anti-Corruption Agency.
The three-day seminar was held by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the European Union within the framework of the rule of law program in the countries of Central Asia.
The purpose of the event is to study the system of treaties of the Council of Europe and the features of accession to the conventions, as well as to discuss bilateral cooperation within the framework of the rule of law program.
During the seminar, informational reports of representatives of the Council of Europe and speeches by members of the delegation of Uzbekistan with presentations on the measures taken in the republic to combat corruption and human trafficking, as well as on reforming the judicial and legal system were heard.
In his presentation, the representative of the Ombudsman touched upon important aspects of the Resolution and Decree, signed by the head of state in 2021, aimed at strengthening the activities of the Ombudsman and preventing torture. In particular, he touched upon granting the Ombudsman the right to initiate legislation, introducing the position of regional representatives working in the field on a permanent basis, as well as the activities of public groups under the Ombudsman to identify and prevent cases of torture.
