The main purpose of this regional conference is to exchange views on the activities of government agencies and members of the public working on human rights in Central Asia in the context of the pandemic and to develop proposals and recommendations for further improvement.
The event was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights, Academician Akmal Saidov, Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova and Chairman of the Association of People with Disabilities of Uzbekistan Oybek Isakov.
Speaking at the regional dialogue, the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) spoke for the first time about the decisions and regulations adopted in Uzbekistan in connection with the pandemic, the established procedures and benefits for social and economic support, and the measures taken to prevent the spread of cоronavirus infection.
She also described the work done by the Ombudsman institution to handle appeals during the pandemic, including ensuring the rights of people with disabilities and ensuring the rights of prisoners and detainees in penitentiary institutions through monitoring visits to closed facilities.
At the end of the regional conference, discussions were held in sections and suggestions and recommendations were made to improve the observance of human rights.
