The event was jointly organised by OSCE field missions, the Conflict Prevention Centre and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The roundtable was also attended by the Ombudsman of North Macedonia and representatives of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek.
In her address, the Ombudsman paid particular attention to amendments to Uzbekistan’s human rights legislation and the State’s position on ensuring human rights and freedoms. She provided a detailed overview of improvements to the functioning of the Ombudsman institution and the introduction of the National Preventive Mechanism aimed at preventing torture.
Feruza Eshmatova also highlighted the longstanding cooperation with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, outlining joint efforts to improve human rights protection mechanisms and strengthen the capacities of Ombudsman staff and representatives of civil society institutions. She also addressed issues relating to equality, inclusion and the exchange of experience in the field of human rights.
The roundtable focused on discussing practical experience in cooperation between national human rights institutions and OSCE structures. Participants exchanged views on preventing discrimination, protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups, and strengthening the independence and effectiveness of national human rights institutions.
