Ombudsman and OSCE ODIHR Discuss Prospects for Cooperation
Within the framework of the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference, being held in Warsaw from 5 to 15 October this year, Feruza Eshmatova, Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman), met with Tea Jaliashvili, First Deputy Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Susan Kerr, Head of the Human Rights Department, and Johannes Heiler, Senior Adviser in the Human Rights Department.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and OSCE ODIHR in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms, as well as prospects for its further development.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present information on the activities of the Ombudsman institution in protecting human rights, safeguarding the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, and preventing human rights violations.

The participants also exchanged views on reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan to ensure human rights and freedoms, strengthen legal protection for the population, and enhance the effectiveness of national human rights institutions.

During the dialogue, the importance of developing cooperation between the Ombudsman institution and civil society organisations, raising public legal awareness, and expanding educational initiatives aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills in the field of human rights was emphasised.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue exchanging experience in the field of human rights protection, studying best practices, and implementing joint initiatives.
