The purpose of the seminar is to strengthen public participation in budgetary processes aimed at ensuring human rights, to enhance legal and practical knowledge, and to develop skills in analyzing the national budget from a human rights perspective.
The seminar featured Igor Grishko, Human Rights Adviser of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Section of OHCHR, who shared his expertise.
The event brought together staff members of the Ombudsman’s Secretariat, representatives of civil society institutions and non-governmental non-profit organizations, as well as journalists and bloggers. Participants not only strengthened their knowledge of the concept of economic, social and cultural rights, the importance of the right to a healthy and sustainable environment, and national and international monitoring mechanisms, but also learned methods of conducting human rights-based budget analysis.
Issues such as public oversight of state expenditures and revenues, as well as the role of budgetary policy in protecting environmental rights, were also discussed.
The seminar will continue on 16 September.
