What issues are raised in appeals received by the Ombudsman from Surkhandarya region?
An analysis of appeals submitted to the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) from Surkhandarya region identified areas where legal awareness among the population needs to be improved. Since the majority of appeals from the region related to pension provision, cadastral documents, and social assistance, these topics were the focus of the latest "Ombudsman School" event.

On October 19, 2024, an open dialogue for residents of Kizirik district was held, with participants from the "Yangi Turmush," "Shodlik," "Dustlik," "Yetim Kum," "Rabatak," and "Kishlogozon" neighborhoods.

During the event, conducted in a free communication format, participants were informed about ensuring citizens' employment, pension assignments, social benefits, compensation payments, the provision of quality social services, and the content of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Recognition of Rights to Illegally Occupied Land Plots and Buildings Constructed on Them."

In the open dialogue with citizens, special attention was given to the issues raised in appeals from this territory.

According to the Presidential Decree "On Measures to Improve the Activities of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman)" dated September 10, 2021, one of the Ombudsman's priority tasks is to familiarize the population with the content of adopted normative legal acts, thereby promoting legal awareness and culture among the public.

The Ombudsman pays special attention to raising the population's legal awareness. As the analysis of appeals reveals, there is a need for information about recent reforms aimed at strengthening social protection and improving living conditions. To this end, since 2022, the "Ombudsman School" project has been implemented in remote areas of the country to increase public awareness of opportunities and benefits available to citizens at the mahalla level.
