Regarding the video appeal circulated on social media concerning the situation in Akhangaran
The Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (ombudsman) reviewed, in the course of supervisory monitoring, a video appeal circulated on social media regarding the situation involving A. Khalikov, the son of citizen E. Khalikova, residing in the city of Akhangaran, Tashkent region.

The video appeal alleged that A. Khalikov had been sentenced by the Akhangaran City Criminal Court to 7 days of administrative arrest. However, instead of being placed in a designated institution for serving the administrative arrest, he was allegedly taken to and held at the Akhangaran City Prosecutor’s Office. It was also claimed that he had not been provided with food and had not been granted access to a lawyer.

This case was taken under the Ombudsman’s supervision on the day the information was published. On the same day, the Ombudsman sent an official supervisory letter to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In addition, on May 6, the Ombudsman’s regional representative for the Tashkent region visited the Special Reception Facility for Persons Subjected to Administrative Arrest, where A. Khalikov was being held, and met with him.

During the meeting, it was established that A. Khalikov was being held in the Special Reception Facility. The conditions of his detention, provision of food, state of health, and other circumstances referred to in the appeal were also examined. During a private conversation, A. Khalikov stated that food was being provided in accordance with the established procedure and that he had no complaints regarding the actions of the facility staff or the conditions of detention.

On May 7 of the current year, upon expiration of the term of administrative arrest, A. Khalikov was fully released from the Special Reception Facility. On the same day, within the framework of the pre-investigation inquiry being conducted regarding the information circulated on social media, he was referred to the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Tashkent region.

The Ombudsman will continue monitoring this case. Additional information will be provided following the results of the review.
