In order to objectively study the situation, on August 16, 2022, a meeting was organized with lawyers protecting the rights and legitimate interests of the accused in criminal cases initiated in connection with the events in Karakalpakstan.

During the conversation, the lawyers were given brief explanations about the Commission, the basics of its creation, its activities and the work done to date.

The opinions of lawyers on ongoing investigative actions regarding events in Karakalpakstan were also studied. In particular, information was received on cases of obstruction of their visits with persons under their protection in the pre-trial detention center, on the packages of close relatives of detainees, on cases of torture during investigative actions.

Information was also received on whether the investigation premises were equipped with CCTV cameras and whether the lawyers exercised the right to request video recordings.

On the same day, appeals were received from about 20 citizens who came to the headquarters of the Commission.
