The first meeting of the CIS Human Rights Commission was held
On November 29, 2023, the first meeting of the CIS Human Rights Commission was held in Minsk. Representatives of Uzbekistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, as well as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the hybrid discussions. Members of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s delegation led by Feruza Eshmatova, Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (ombudsman) took part in the meeting. Mirzatillo Tillabaev, First Deputy Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan also participated as a member of the delegation.

Speaking at the event, the CIS General Secretary Sergey Lebedev expressed hope that the Commission will be an important tool in the protection of human rights across the Commonwealth countries.

The measures aimed at developing specific mechanisms for the protection of human rights included in the Commission’s 2024-2025 Work Plan and other organizational issues were discussed at the meeting.

It was also noted that the Commission members will further strengthen the cooperation of the CIS member states in this area, and a Statement on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted.
