The Authorized Person for Human Rights met with a delegation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom
On April 6, 2022, The Authorized Person for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova met with a delegation led by Chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom Nadine Maenza.

During the conversation, the guests were first informed about the activities of the ombudsman institution and about the reforms implemented in recent years in the field of ensuring human rights.

It was also noted about monitoring visits with public groups to closed institutions with restriction of freedom of movement within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture under the Ombudsman, as well as the participation of civil society institutions and the media in these visits. Detailed information was provided on the ongoing work to prevent torture.

Chairman of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom N. Maenza thanked for the warm dialogue, recognized the positive changes in Uzbekistan and expressed her readiness for cooperation.

For reference: The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) monitors the observance of religious legislation in countries. The Commission publishes annual reports on the state of religious freedom in the world. Although these reports are advisory in nature, they are taken into account by members of the US government and parliament when making decisions about cooperation with a particular country and play an important role in shaping international public opinion about the situation in specific countries.
