Commission members participate in all lawsuits related to riots in Karakalpakstan
The Bukhara Regional Court continues open court proceedings to consider a criminal case against 22 defendants in connection with the riots that took place in the city of Nukus on July 1-2, 2022. In July, representatives of the National Guard and the Prosecutor General's Office said that 516 people had been detained for participating in demonstrations. The public had questions about the whereabouts of the remaining individuals.

Based on the foregoing, the Independent Commission reports that while the criminal cases against 22 defendants are pending in court proceedings, 107 of those arrested have been returned to their families at the initiative of the Commission, by changing the preventive measure in the form of imprisonment to house arrest in accordance with the principle of humanism on the basis of public guarantee. The rest of the people were brought to administrative responsibility.

Members of the Commission for Independent Investigation of the Circumstances and Events in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, who participated in the court session as observers, reported that the trials are conducted in accordance with the law.

During court proceedings on November 29, witnesses are being questioned in relation to Dauletmurat Tadzhimuratov, who led the demonstrations. The Commission oversees litigation.
