The Authorized Person for Human Rights met with a foreign journalist
As you know, about a hundred representatives of foreign media visited our country to take part in the presidential elections in Uzbekistan on October 24. One of them, Marat Bashimov, editor-in-chief of the Kazakhstani news portal infozakon.kz, expressed his desire to meet with the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights.

On October 25 the Authorized Person for Human Rights met with Marat Bashimov, doctor of law, professor, editor-in-chief of the news portal infozakon.kz.

During the conversation the guest noted that for many years he has conducted a number of research projects in the field of human rights and studied the activities of ombudsman institutions in a number of foreign countries.

He was also interested in the Law "On the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman)" and changes in the Ombudsman's activities in recent years, as there is no separate law on the activities of the Ombudsman in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Feruza Eshmatova noted that the Republic of Uzbekistan was one of the first states in Central Asia that adopted and improved the Law on the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in 1997, Ombudsman was authorized to introduce issues to the Constitutional Court, participate in meetings and express her opinions on all issues considered by the court, apply to the court with applications and claims on behalf of citizens without payment of state fees, organize protection of rights and freedoms of prisoners, be a member of the Constitutional Court.

At the end of the meeting, the journalist expressed his gratitude for the detailed answers to his questions. Also, he noted that Uzbekistan has carried out effective reforms to ensure human rights, strengthen the legal framework of the Ombudsman, and it would be useful to study this best practice in many countries and apply it in their work.
