Failure to pay child support may lead to criminal liability - Ombudsman

It is worth noting that in the first 9 months of 2024, the Ombudsman received 370 appeals regarding the collection of child support payments. This represents a 23.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. As a result of processing these appeals, over 286 million 477 thousand UZS were collected in child support payments for the maintenance of minor children. In 8 cases, individuals who failed to pay child support were held administratively liable, while in 5 cases, criminal proceedings were initiated against those found guilty, resulting in sentences handed down by the court.

Senate Committee discussed a new version of the law regulating the Ombudsman’s activities

On October 8 of this year, the Senate Committee on Judicial and Legal Affairs and Anti-Corruption reviewed the law "On the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman)." The new law consists of 8 chapters and 57 articles and is developed based on presidential decrees and resolutions, as well as the updated Constitution. In contrast, the previous law contained 22 articles and several additional clauses.
