Uzbek Ombudsman meets head of OSCE/ODIHR election assessment mission
The Authorized of Oliy Majlis [parliament] of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) met with the head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights election assessment mission, Ambassador Iolanda Brunetti in Tashkent on 19 December.
The sides discussed issues of ensuring political rights during the elections to representative authority bodies in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek Ombudsman informed on its activity, regional representatives, monitoring of human rights on the territory of the country, consideration of addresses of citizens. Fruitful cooperation with the OSCE, its institutions, mission in our country, other international organizations was noted.
I. Brunetti hailed the efforts of the Uzbek Ombudsman in the sphere of advancement of human rights, in particular, objectively evaluating the events held in collaboration with the OSCE Representative Office in Uzbekistan. Also she told about plans and activity of the mission, last meetings in Uzbekistan, including with the regional representative of the Authorized for Human Rights in Khorezm region.
